Studio

The Refugee Collective Studio creates livelihood opportunities for refugees through fair wage production and Farm to Fiber initiatives.

About the Studio

The Refugee Collective Studio is a women-led textile manufacturer & social enterprise which creates dignified, fair-wage employment for refugee women in Austin, Texas. Our Studio team is highly skilled, including members who have had decades of sewing experience before being professionally trained on industrial machines. Our women-led Studio provides a supportive work environment, leadership opportunities for upward mobility, and individual case management.

We offer socially and environmentally conscious brands the opportunity to make our studio part of their story. The studio participates in sustainable practices, such as upcycling remnant fabrics, natural dyeing, and sourcing local fiber from our Texas farming community.

Collaborating with our farm, we work in a dedicated space for natural dyeing projects which are produced from dye-plants grown on the farm and collected food waste donated by local restaurant partnerships. Collecting food scraps for natural dyeing also aids to our composting initatives at the farm, diverting food waste from landfills. We host educational workshop opportunities sharing natural dye techniques as well as textile crafts, like embroidery and block printing to deepen our connections with our community.
